At EPIC, we provide Supported Independent Living (SIL) Accommodation options and Support Services to NDIS participants with allocated funding. If you need a SIL accommodation option or you require SIL in your own home, we are here to help. Although we specialise in mental health, we also provide specialist disability supports to all NDIS participants funded for SIL in their plan. We have an experienced team that will work with you to develop SIL supports that are completely tailored to your individual needs. This can include supports that are one-to-one, one to two, one-to-three, or even two workers to one participant support, and include any type of overnight support whether it be inactive or active.

What is Supported Independent Living?

Supported Independent Living (SIL) is 24-hour assistance with daily tasks to enable NDIS participants to live as independently as possible while building their skills and capacity with the support of the right staff.

Some of the services EPIC provides include:

  • Independent Accommodation options – No sharing independent units.
  • In your own home SIL
  • 24-hour support, including overnight (active or inactive)
  • Personal care
  • Mobility support
  • Medication assistance
  • Hoisting
  • Shopping and meal preparation
  • Domestic support
  • Therapy support

Some examples of daily living expenses not covered with SIL funding include:

  • Groceries and paid activities
  • Rent
  • Utilities

EPIC will include all the above costs in an agreement if you choose to live in one of our SIL properties.

Who can access SIL support?

SIL is available to NDIS participants who have been funded for SIL supports in their NDIS Plan. The amount of SIL funding you receive depends on the level and type of support you need to live independently, and what is considered reasonable and necessary for your needs.

What’s the difference between SDA and SIL?

Specialist Disability Accommodation (SDA) is specifically designed housing for participants with complex care needs.

Supported Independent Living (SIL) is the onsite supports, either in your own home or in a SIL provider accommodation, that provide assistance with daily tasks and to help participants to develop independent living skills.

Some participants may be eligible for funding for both SDA and SIL. This means that you will be funded for your specialist accommodation and your daily support requirements.
