SIL is available to NDIS participants who have been funded for SIL supports in their NDIS Plan. The amount of SIL funding you receive depends on the level and type of support you need to live independently, and what is considered reasonable and necessary for your needs. Some factors taken into consideration include:
- Your individual circumstances and needs
- Your age
- Your goals and preferences
- Your independence
- Living skills and capacity building needs
- Modifications to your home or assistive technology to increase independence
- Safety information, reports and assessments provided by you, health professionals and providers
What’s the difference between SDA and SIL?
Specialist Disability Accommodation (SDA) is specifically designed housing for participants with complex care needs.
Supported Independent Living (SIL) is the onsite supports that provide assistance with daily tasks and help participants to develop independent living skills.
Some participants may be eligible for funding for both SDA and SIL, this will be funded separately in your plan to provide more flexibility with service providers.
